I have supported creating homes for hundred of residents in Central Saanich, and I will continue to.
There is a real shortage of homes for seniors to remain and age gracefully in our community, for young families to grow and raise their children here, for workers and employees to work and live in Central Saanich.
Our OCP and Residential & Infill Report provides recommendations and guidelines on how to do this respectfully and sensitively..
Supporting and Preserving Agriculture
Our agricultural lands are so important to our community and our region as a whole. Central Saanich is the "breadbasket" of the region. It is vitally important the District continues to support local farms & farmers.
The rural nature of Central Saanich is part of what makes our community unique, and I will continue to respect the Urban Containment Boundary and the Regional Growth Strategy.
Climate Action & Active Transportation
- I will continue to support green initiatives outlined in the Central Saanich Climate Leadership Plan.
- Expand and grow multi-use paths in Central Saanich. Especially along Wallace Dr. and Mt. Newton X Rd.
- Further broaden our Oil to Heat Pump program (formerly PACE) to look at including Solar and other renewable energy for residents and businesses.
Keating Industrial Park Growth
The Keating Business Area is a critical part of our community. I will continue to advocate growth and development of commercial activity within the Keating Business Area.
The Keating parking study was just completed and there were a number of short and medium term objectives that can be accomplished to improve parking for businesses and employees.
Family Doctor and Healthcare Provider Shortage
Everyone should have access to a family doctor and reasonable ability to get medical help!
This is ENTIRELY the purview of the Provincial government, and I understand that. I also understand local governments can have a role in this.
I have already put forward an idea for the District of Central Saanich to look at acquiring housing for family healthcare professionals who would practice in Central Saanich. I will continue to find creative ideas to support bringing more healthcare providers to our community.
Prudent Fiscal Management
In a time of record inflation, now is the time to be even more fiscally responsible.
I will continue to ensure council respects your tax dollars. Looks for all grant opportunities and gets the most value for all our expenditures.
